What are the rules regarding receiving Communion more than once in a day? As far as I knew they were that you could receive Communion a second time, only if that second time was at a Mass. Are there any other stipulations to this? Can one regularly attend two masses a day and receive Holy Communion twice? Or is it a once in a while type of thing?

And if someone can show me a document regarding this issue I’d be very thankful!! 🙂

THANKS!

The only document that I’m aware of is the Code of Canon Law, which states:

“Canon 917 A person who has already received the Most Holy Eucharist can receive it a second time on the same day only within the eucharistic celebration in which the person participates …”

No mention of one not being able to receive a second time every day that one desires to do so. 🤷

Another document that confirms this is the Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1388:
1388 It is in keeping with the very meaning of the Eucharist that the faithful, if they have the required dispositions,221 receive communion when they participate in the Mass.222 As the Second Vatican Council says: "That more perfect form of participation in the Mass whereby the faithful, after the priest’s communion, receive the Lord’s Body from the same sacrifice, is warmly recommended."223
and the footnote accompanying this paragraph:
222 Cf. CIC, can. 917; The faithful may recieve the Holy Eucharist only a second time on the same day [CF. Pontificia Commissio Codici luris Canonici Authentice Intrepretando, *Responsa ad proposita dubia,
1:AAS 76 (1984) 746].
Some other things that should be considered on an individual basis are whether receiving twice every day makes it too “routine,” rather than the reverent, intimate communion it should be; and whether attending Mass a second time each day is keeping you from any duties of your state in life (to family, job, community, etc.).
