Receiving Communion When One Can't Be At Mass

Sorry Corki I mean that.

For I had tried to answer to the question direct and er yes, used my own experience as an anglican. But also may be terminology of language because for me a Said Mass is simpler than a Full Sung Eucharist Mass with its full ‘strings’ attached. I cannot answer for other Anglicans and only answer for myself in that indeed the priest did the said mass with me at hospital/home. It may be that is how that priest did it because I know we do have reserve supply etc for as such. I think may be too it had already been in the main service but as the communicant we did the service.

But I still stand by the original opening post in that the communion - the wafer and wine has to go through the Mass to become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ whether we are present or not. Thinking about it in more detail this will have happend in church and yes he did bring it me already consecrated. But I did go through the whole service, but said. Now I know why it was quicker at home than in church and for me I do see it as though its a simpler service in that that part can’t be done again as already been done and by simpler I also mean shortend.

But for the record, I don’t present Anglican Teaching because I haven’t been taught Anglican teaching myself. So please don’t assume that I am assuming…👍 I talk about what I know from experience because I do not know what the old anglicans been taught. Which also is a point to note that when each other are talking they think anglican teaching is xyz but yet when get brave enough to ask a priest he says abc… for example a very minor example both church warden and I putting out candles on the Altar both questioned the priest about if they are rightly placed to which he said there isn’t any specific way and we both looked at him and me being me just said, that is not what they - meaning the congregation, will say if they think the candles are wrong. That is extremely minor but number of times that when a priest is asked about something the answer is far more flexible than old anglicans seem to think so I have no idea of Anglican Teaching as it appears broad. So I present what I know.

But as one person did suggest on here, may be its our language differences because whilst I speak English and you Americans speak English. You have different usage of words to how we use them though appear to be the same word and so get our wires crossed. So it would be nice rather than accusing me of being wrong before giving me a chance to explain would be nice which would go for anyone actually. People are very quick here to jump on one another for seemingly being wrong and those times when people have been given the opportunity to explain what they mean it turns out the same thing more or less. So a little patience and consideration before targeting anyone at claiming they are wrong, take time to get to know what they are saying rather than assume what they are saying.

The opening poster didn’t mention about being sick and want to receive communion at home because of being sick. They talked about just wanting to have communion at home whenever they want without the mass. Again that may be a language/English usage issue but we are so hot on telling each other we are wrong, the opening poster has not been back yet to reply to any questions etc to give them a chance of explaining what they may mean a bit more. Too much energy is spent on attacking each other. If someone is concerned about content of the post they should highlight the moderator shouldn’t they rather than attack the poster first hand. That puts backs up where a few questions to sort out what may be being meant bearing in mind this is an international website so English will not be the first language for everyone so if they are unsure what a poster meant then its the responsibity of us all to discern rather than attack. A little maturity will go a long way rather than insisting we are wrong all the time. Amazing how the anglican card gets waved at me:) rather than taking time out to understand what I might mean by simpler… rather than assume I mean something there isn’t. And we are not all as expert as we like to think we are. My point about once we are brave enough to ask the priest, his answer is always a lot more flexible than we want to believe - no offence meant there:)

Peace be with you Corki

please read what I have said. I have basically said this.

There is absolutely no way that anyone can receive communion without a mass being said for it. You aren’t just given the wafer and wine. Mass is performed on it at some point before you receive it as body and blood.

I have said that if you read rather than just want to challenge what you think I said.🤷 I have actually received the simpler mass at home. You have interpreted something else to what I mean by simpler mass. All I mean by simpler mass is a Said Mass. That is said at home or it is with us because that is what I received for six weeks after hospital.

some people are quick to challenge rather than quick to find out what I might be actually meaning. I have received communion at home - have you?👍
Yes, I have received at home and in the hospital many, many times. Please be aware that this is CATHOLIC Answers, and to participate in the discussion as an Anglican without identifying yourself and your views as such is confusing to others in the discussion.

OP, it certainly can be allowed to receive Communion without going to Mass, and not just for being sick. First off, all family and caregivers present when a EMHC comes to bring Communion are also explicitly allowed to receive if they so wish. Beyond that, it is something that is up to the priest at your parish, if he will allow you to come at a different time and have someone present to give you communion then there would be nothing wrong with that. Yes, it is better to attend Mass as well if you can, but that doesn’t mean it is wrong or sinful to receive outside of Mass.
