As Cardinal Arinze has stated, we should not regulate posture so rigidly when one knows they have a choice. And there is a choice in regards for different postures for communion.and on the other, to not regulate posture rigidly in such a way that those who wish to kneel or sit would no longer be free.
Code:Francis Cardinal Arinze Prefect
Also, it should be noted that the 3 letters from the CDWDS came after the norm was established. Therefore, whatever CDWDS states, trumps the “norm” (that includes the “pastoring part” that’s been previously established, and one needs to recall that it has already been called completely appropriate. To me, it doesn’t get clearer than that.
Also, I think it’s a good idea for us to remember that norms are guidelines. Generally, norms are not laws in the sense that if we break them, we automatically sin or are disobedient. They are there for good reason and are subject to sound judgment and exceptions will always be made as the CDWDS has made by their 3 letters.
