Receiving communion?

Hello! So I will try to make this brief. I have been baptized, I received my first confession and first communion seven years ago, left the church shortly after. I have been back for a short time, I have been attending mass for two-ish months I believe. I have not received communion yet. I guess I just wanted to get really into the flow of things and make sure I was prepared to receive. I am going to confession again tomorrow, and would like to ascertain that I am good to receive communion on Sunday, as long as I am not in a state of mortal sin and I have not eaten for an hour beforehand (of course haha). It will be my first time in years and I am really excited! However, since I have been away so long, I want to be absolutely positively certain about this.

Yes, confession makes you eligible to receive.

How wonderful you have resumed coming to mass. I know your post said you did your reconciliation, I’m assuming that because you have had communion that you also had your confirmation? If so and your not in a state of mortal sin then as other posters advised yes your right to received communion 🙂

No, it is not necessary to have been confirmed to receive Holy Communion.

But of course, he should enquire into being confirmed, to complete the process of initiation.
 
Really? Ok some churches must be differant at my church because I converted as an adult I had to be received into the church before I could receive communion but did both on the same day. I know my children receive communion first then will receive sacrament of confirmation in a couple of years but just thought it was an adult thing because my husband was baptised catholic and has done his other sacraments but doesent receive communion, our priest is always encouraging him to do conframation because he feels sorry for him sitting there watching everyone else receive communion. I must look into why we do it that way!

When you go to confession, you can receive communion.

Hi,
I have not yet been confirmed. When I was a kid and still part of the church, the way I heard it was that you received first confession and communion around 7 or 8 and then confirmation in your early teens. From time spend on these forums, I hear that recently many churches began to move back towards doing confirmation before communion, but it doesn’t sound like a requirement.

It suddenly occurred to me, could someone have misheard, and it was confession the priest was talking about, not Confirmation?
Do get back to us after you have had a chance to speak to your priest.
