Jonah:
My friend is in mortal sin and she went up today to receive. After I told her that it was wrong and she shouldn’t.

Her God says it’s okay… ?
no one knows the state of another person’s soul, no matter what you have observed or what she has told you, unless you are the priest in confession you cannot make that judgement.
even if a friend confides that she is in a state of mortal sin and intends to receive communion any way, your obligation is to state the teaching of the Church, in charity. your obligation ends there.

I don’t think I’m making a judgment. I don’t even judge her for her sin. But I am stating a fact when I say she is in mortal sin.
For example;
If the church says to have an abortion is a mortal sin. Is it a judgement or a fact ? IF someone commits adultery are they in mortal sin? If yes, is it a judgement or a fact ?

I don’t care to rat on my friend. I told her that what she was doing was wrong according to the church. Her response to that,“We are the chruch.”

I just want to know why my God is so different from her god.

I’m just venting. Please forgive.

She may indeed be an obstinate sinner. From what you are saying, I would say that she is. BUT we don’t know that for sure. As was said before, the only way to know for sure would be to be her confessor (if she has one) or God.

I understand your feelings, trust me. I see it all the time. I see people who seem to belong to a different Church than me even though they say they are Catholic. I see people who are behaving exactly as I and others of my denomination behaved (before I converted) calling themselves Catholic. I can’t judge them to be in mortal sin however. I am not God, and if they are doing all that they are doing and still not confessing and receiving Holy Communion, then He will have a say about that.

We can only pray for them. Just as I would hope others would pray for me. After all, are any of us really any better than those poor souls?

Exactly… I am no better than she and she is no better than I. That’s why I want to punch her in the neck when she get up to receive communion…

I’m gonna let it go, turn my head, close my eyes… and pray.

Remind her that those who receive communion unworthily, bring upon themselves condemnation and not salvation. If there is ANY doubt, it is better NOT to receive.
