Receiving eucharist twice in one day

a friend saya he can receive the eucharist twice in one day (sat eve and then again on sunday), meanwhile he also went to mass on sat morning and received. He told his brother it was allowed per canon law. I thought only in extraordinary situations receiving twice a day was allowed. I need definitive answer please. asap

If you want definitive, here goes Canon 917:

Can. 917 A person who has already received the Most Holy Eucharist can receive it a second time on the same day only within the eucharistic celebration in which the person participates, without prejudice to the prescript of ⇒ can. 921, §2.

by canon law you can receive twice in one day. It sounds like all is okay since on Saturday, you can receive once in the am and once in the afternoon (even though it is for the vigil mass) as long as both times were at a mass and not a communion service. Then on Sunday you can receive again for that day. A day is considered from midnight to midnight.

How could a day be from midnight to midnight? Doesn’t the Saturday vigil fulfill the Sunday requirement?

That’s just for the purposes of having the same readings and having it fulfil the Sabbath obligation to attend Mass, for those who can’t make it for Sunday. Doesn’t apply in regards to receiving Communion, fasting or anything else.

Remember Holy Days of Obligation also have vigil Masses. Imagine if one fell on a Friday, would you abstain from meat from 4pm Thursday??? :ehh:
