I’m new to the forums so I hope this is the appropriate place to post this.

I went to Mass this afternoon, but a friend wants me to meet her for Mass tomorrow morning as well. Can I receive Communion more than once during this Saturday Vigial-Sunday obligation period? I seem to remember hearing you can receive twice in twenty-four, but I have no idea where or when and if I just imagined this!

Thanks!

Yes you can… 👍

The Code of Canon Law (#917) stipulates, “A person who has received the Most Holy Eucharist may receive it again on the same day only during the celebration of the Eucharist in which the person participates, with due regard for the prescription of Canon 921.2. “Following this lead, Canon 921.2 stipulates, “Even if they have received Communion in the same day, those who are in danger of death are strongly urged to receive again.”

So, you can receive it twice, only if you’re on the verge of death?

No. If you’re on the verge of death, the 2nd time doesn’t require participation in the celebration of the Eucharist.

You can receive Holy Communion once a day outside of Mass and a second time in the same day while attending Mass. A “Day” ends at midnight.

Example:

You arrive for a funeral on Saturday afternoon and find a Deacon presiding at the Funeral liturgy. Holy Communion is distributed and you receive. You stick around for a few hours and decide to attend Mass Saturday evening before driving back home and receive Holy Communion again at Mass.
After returning home late Saturday your family wants you to attend Mass with them Sunday morning. You do and receive Holy Communion at the Sunday morning Mass. Later that day at the youth Mass (your a youth minister) they need an extra EMHC and ask you. You of course receive Holy Communion again.
Everything is fine and you have not broken any church rules about receiving Communion.

This might apply, for example, if the homily is REALLY bad…

No, just kidding. You can receive twice.
