Receiving just the bread and not the wine

Does anyone go to a parish that offers Holy Communion by intinction? My parish doesn’t, but I have attended an Anglican-use parish that does, and I find that a very good way to offer the Lord under both species. It requires only one chalice (if only the priest is offering it) and it is more efficient time-wise because you don’t have to go to a separate line to receive the Precious Blood (and you don’t have numerous people drinking from the same cup). I also like the fact that it requires receiving the Eucharist on the tongue. I’ve heard this is a common way of receiving Holy Communion in Europe, and I wonder why it hasn’t caught on here in the U.S.?

Yes, our parish doesn’t offer the chalice, either. But there is a lady with a wheat allergy at one of the masses and the priest saves The Blood for her.
We also have some parishioners who have a wheat allergy (called celiacs disease), so they only receive the chalice…

Interesting that Christ chose to give his entire divinity in each substance… so as not to disclude anyone from receiving him (even those with celiacs or alcoholism, etc, etc)… 😃

I don’t want to drink out of the same cup as everyone since who knows what virses and germs are in there so I usually don’t drink from the cup.
Assuming you’re in a state of grace, worst case you get a virus, die, and go to Heaven! Run, don’t walk, to that cup!👍

The Chalice contains the Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ! I couldn’t even imagine thinking of germs and viruses.
I know two priests who are recovering (recovered) alcoholics. I asked them on separate occasions if consumption of the Precious Blood bothered them in any way. They both said that they had absolutely no problem with it! That’s God’s grace!

On the other hand, when I was an extraordinary minister, once I had to consume a fairly large quantity and found that it made me a little bit light-headed.

Receiving just the Sacred Host is much more practical and there is less danger of the dropping of Him. Also, if the Host were to, God forbid, be dropped, it would be easier to recover all the particles.

As a mother, I know how easy it is to clean up crumbs versus fluids, especially on a surface, such as carpet or rugs.

Also, the same sign of reverence needs to be shown to Our Lord before receiving His Precious Blood.
Also, ordinary ministers are to distribute Holy Communion and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion are only to be used in case of great numbers of people. So, it seems that until we have a plentitude of priests, we really don’t have enough ordinary ministers to be distributing Holy Communion under both species to the laity.
So if there are great numbers of people, it makes Communion take much longer when both species are distributed.

I typical receive our Lord under the appearance of bread, and abstain from the chalice, I don’t want Jesus in my mustache.
I stopped taking the wine, I have seen to many bits of mustache floating around in Jesus.

Besides, you get the Body and Blood of Christ in either form.

Please do so before receiving if you happen to be suffering from a cold or flu.
Yes, many parishes will ask that people abstain from the chalice during flu season. It’s too risky for the elderly, people with asthma, etc.

I am a recovering alchodolic and never take wine. It deosnt matter as the host is Christ in his entirety-body and blood.
