Receiving more than one Host

So, I don’t think I’m going to find the answer to this on google…

I received two hosts today, both at the same Mass, just so we’re clear. I think both the EMHC and I realized that he was holding two hosts at the time, we both paused kind of, and then I received both hosts (on the tongue, as I normally do). Anyways, I didn’t feel that I should not receive two and wait or something for him to put one back.

Is there a protocol on this? Or does it matter? *

This is the first time this has ever happened to me, and I’ve never heard of anyone else mentioning this.*

Nothing wrong at all. No different rom receiving a bigger piece of the celebrant’s Host. Sometimes, if the remaining Hosts can`t be reserved, the last couple of communicants will be given an extra one just to avoid the priest having to consume too many.

It happened to me a couple of times. There is absolutely nothing wrong if the hosts are given at the same time. Not to be confused with hearing two masses and receiving holy communion twice.

I can assure you this is fine. This can happen, and there is no intent here to disrespect the Host, but rather an interest and desire to be certain it was properly handled and consumed. Consider it a blessing.

One time at Mass, Father noticed that his entire supply of Consecrated Hosts had been infested with “meal worms.” During Communion he was obviously very careful about giving Hosts to people that were not so affected. However, after Mass he asked myself and two other Eucharistic Ministers to assist him in consuming all of the remaining Hosts.

He chose us because he was fully aware of our willingness to consume the Host even in this situation. As a Eucharistic Minister I also had a couple of occasions in which I found a host on the floor. I had to assume that it was consecrated and consumed it. If the Host cannot be consumed it is placed in a special sink in which the drain opens to the ground, and does not go to the sewer. The host can never simply be tossed or thrown out.

So again, view this as a special grace from God and give a prayer of thanks. Perhaps you could offer that second Host for someone who is ill or could not receive today.
