Not sure how easy it would be to conduct a proper clinical study into this? Any volunteers? There is no credible medical evidence that receiving on the tongue is presents more risk.

This is astonishing. Of course there will be no clinical studies on receiving a host. With your logic, you can ignore social distancing too.here is no credible medical evidence that receiving on the tongue is presents more risk. If you chose not to receive then that’s your decision & nothing to do with anyone else being “uncharitable”.
I said evidence. Not a specific study. There is evidence that it would transfer just exactly the same via hands. This is astonishing. Of course there will be no clinical studies on receiving a host. With your logic, you can ignore social distancing too.
Feels like we’re getting to the point where this can keep going. My tongue is not consecrated. Jesus told me to eat his flesh. I can’t eat his flesh without it being in my mouth. I can receive it into my mouth without it touching my hands though. Going from “I don’t want to place my hands on the body of Christ” to talking about consecrated tongues seems to be just not accepting a response I gave to a question you asked. I’m sure it’s not your intention. In (2) someone may form the view that if you should not receive communion in non-consecrated hands but then which physical part of your body is? Your tongue certainly is not consecrated either?
But your points are valid and everyone is entitled to receive Jesus in the Eucharist as he/she deems appropriate.
In a deadly serious matter such as the current spreading of this virus we cannot wait for full knowledge, as we would even with other (less deadly) viruses. Measures with reasonable potential to slow transmission are employed, even if they do not each have a specific study behind them. For example, what is mentioned in this thread, some of the measures taken in churches thus far.Newhills:![]()

True enough although it wasn’t specified exactly how we should eat his flesh. However I should think most most of us eat using our hands in some way… not that I want to go into the debate of using spoons and forks in this particular case.Jesus told me to eat his flesh. I can’t eat his flesh without it being in my mouth.
We have a problem with the virus. Don’t take it personally. It seems that some people in here have a problem with people who choose to receive on the tongue.
We also have a history on this site of people telling us how we “must” do whatever their preference is about {insert topic here} or else we’re in terrible sin. Some of us have an almost reflexive reaction to anything that rings that bell.It seems that some people in here have a problem with people who choose to receive on the tongue.
the bread is cut into long narrow strips before liturgy. How do Melkites recieve if they don’t use a spoon?
