Receiving Our Lord on the hand and Covid?

I need some advice: I have always received our Lord on the tongue, but lately due to the Covid stuff priest kinda give me weird looks or and some occasion comments under their breathe. This has never bothered me, but last week when I was at daily mass I guess the priest was confused and it resulted in him dropping our Lord on the floor when I went up to receive. So I thought it would be a good idea to receive on the hand (even tho I really really dont want to) to avoid this awkwardness during this time and return to receiving on the tongue once this pandemic has passed. I would love to hear people take on this or have they experience similar things. thanks again !

At the churches I attend, they each have some procedure for communion on the tongue. The two I attend most regularly have a rule at one church that those receiving on the tongue get into a particular line for a particular priest, who is just giving communion on the tongue, and at the other church they have a rule that if you would like to receive on the tongue please get in line at the very end.

You might ask your pastor if there is a particular procedure you might follow to avoid confusing the priest as you described.

Since my reception I had always received on the tongue even in the early days of the pandemic when I had to wait until the end with a handful of others to do so.

The combination of our Bishop’s request that we receive in the hand out of charity and the realisation that, once CotT was (I pray temporarily) banned in the UK, it could be a very long time before I could receive again, led me to the acceptance that, for the foreseeable future, I would be receiving on the hand.

It will be a joyous day when the pandemic is over, our holy water is returned and we can receive under both kinds and in either manner as our consciences lead us.

It’s so sad isn’t it? I just told my kids that there’s a good chance of a Eucharistic minister being so ruffled at the idea of trying to put Jesus on their tongue and not touch it… that we need to just move to the hand until Covid is over. We are all so sad. Then the very next day our priest mandated the hands anyway.

I think our archdiocese is handling it very well. Here we are still restricted to max 50 people per Mass. Our parish has doubled the number of Masses on the weekend to accommodate more of the faithful. Those who wish to receive on the tongue line up on one side and Father carefully communes them. Those who wish to receive on the hand line up on the other side and receive from Sister. For holy water, we have a no contact dispenser.

Our cathedral is being super careful but effective. They have installed plexiglass on the altar rail. There’s one plexiglass station for receiving on the hand, and one for receiving on the tongue. In both cases the priest simply puts his hand through a little slot in the plexiglass - no exchange of air.

Lately I have been in the unfortunate position of having to catch my Lord.

Our priest has become so paranoid about touching others that he has taken to dropping from a distance into the hands of the communicant.

His aim isn’t always the best, but fortunately my reaction time thus far has been up to the task.
