I would never do it but I’ve seen it done in the winter where somebody receives the Eucharist while wearing gloves (i.e thin gloves not bulky gloves). Is this Ok?
The Church allows us to receive on the tongue or in the hand. Gloves cover the hands so I would assume its forbidden.I would never do it but I’ve seen it done in the winter where somebody receives the Eucharist while wearing gloves (i.e thin gloves not bulky gloves). Is this Ok?
No, it’s certainly not. You may receive in the hand itself, or on the tongue. If the hand is not available, then you are obligated to receive on the tongue, if you want to receive…I would never do it but I’ve seen it done in the winter where somebody receives the Eucharist while wearing gloves (i.e thin gloves not bulky gloves). I was thinking of something along those lines. Thanks for clearing that one up, TheMc.No, it’s certainly not. You may receive in the hand itself, or on the tongue. If the hand is not available, then you are obligated to receive on the tongue, if you want to receive…
if you are wearing gloves or have anything in your hands–tissue, purse, missal, baby–you must, must, must receive on the tongue.I would never do it but I’ve seen it done in the winter where somebody receives the Eucharist while wearing gloves (i.e thin gloves not bulky gloves). Is this Ok?
yes it is expressly forbidden to take communion in the hand with your gloves on or with anything else in your hand,.I don’t think gloves are expressedly forbidden. But .
Good points, but you say that the glove would have to be purified and that is why it cannot touch the consecrated Host. In the Latin Mass, all vessels touching the precious blood and the consecrated host are purified, and also the priest’s hands are purified after communion. But in the Novus Ordo Mass, although they purify the vessels, no one’s hands who have touched the consecrated hosts are purified, including the priest’s. Do you, as an EMHC, purify your hands after distributing communion? And certainly none of the people who received in the hand have had their hands purified. So although that argument has validity in the Latin Mass, it does not have any validity in the Novus Ordo Mass. But you have to wonder why that was thrown out. When I attended a training session for Extraordiary Ministers of Holy Communion, we were instructed not to give Communion in the hand to people wearing gloves. Either they had to remove both gloves or receive on the tongue. Common sense will tell you that trying to pick up the thin Host with a glove on could be difficult and could cause one to drop the Host. There is also the matter of the glove having touched the Sacred Host and would need to be purified in case the glove picked up any crumbs or particles from the Host. Our First Communicants are instructed not to wear gloves when making their First Communion.
Where does it say?yes it is expressly forbidden to take communion in the hand with your gloves on or with anything else in your hand,.
It does not have to state no gloves allowed. It states you may receive on the tongue or in the hand. If you have gloves on then you cannot receive in the hand because they are covered by the gloves.Where does it say?
Good point. We are told here that we can’t receive with gloves on because there will be particles left on the glove. But if you receive in the hand, won’t there also be particles left in your hand? What is the difference?Where does it say?
