How many times can one receive the Eucharist in one day? One priest told me as many times as I wanted - 6 or 8 times. Another priest told me twice.
Twice, provided the second time is within Mass (not a Communion service). The exception is viaticum, which may be received outside of Mass if it is ones second communion of the day. One may also receive a third time in a day, provided the third time is Viaticum. How many times can one receive the Eucharist in one day? One priest told me as many times as I wanted - 6 or 8 times. Canon 917 A person who has already received the Most Holy Eucharist can receive it a second time on the same day only within the eucharistic celebration in which the person participates, without prejudice to the prescript of ⇒ can. 921, §2.
I probably heard this already but unclear now - is this applying to priests? How many times can they receive Communion and is celebrating mass considered as receiving Communion? Sorry if the questions sound a bit dumb.Twice, provided the second time is within Mass (not a Communion service). Priests must receive both species at each Mass they celebrate or concelebrate. If a priest is simply attending the Mass as a member of the congregation, the same requirement would apply as to the laity. Canon Law restricts the number of Masses a priest may celebrate. He normally is only permitted to celebrate one Mass per day, but is allowed a second for a pastoral reason, and a third on Sundays. Again, he must receive under both species at each Mass he celebrates or concelebrates, regardless of how many previous Masses he has celebrated on that day.I probably heard this already but unclear now - is this applying to priests? Well, this is probably the least obeyed canon out there. It’s routinely ignored due to the priest shortage plaguing the Church. But, it is there.Ok, thanks.
So he can only celebrate mass twice a day, and a maximum third on Sundays.
Didn’t think about this but we sometimes took out an elderly retired priest to celebrate mass in parishioners’ houses for certain occasions, which we arranged for them. He is our favorite, never refused; and we supposed it was ok with him or that he hadn’t filled up his mass ‘quota’ of the day earlier on.
If you are talking about lay people this is not correct.Twice a day or 3ce on a Sunday.
Also, I think that for those who are gravely ill, they may receive a little more
