Hi there.

I am looking for recent editions of the AAS, but it seems the last document available online in the Vatican’s website is that of January 2017. Do you know if there is a long lag in the publication of these documents online? My university library has until the September 2017 edition. Is this lag on purpose?

Yes, it is published later and irregularly.
 
They probably want to push people to buy the hardcopy before putting it online.

It’s the same reason publishers release novels in hardcover first, because they’re more expensive, and only later release the EPub or whatever.
