Hey,
I’ve been recieving weekly confession for years. And I’ve rarely received the Eucharist, because I don’t want to defile the Body and Blood of Christ.

Are you asking if you’re being overly scrupulous?

I think this is one of the dangers of placing far too much emphasis on the Majesty and Holiness of God, without taking into consideration the great condescension of Jesus, and how dearly He wants to unite Himself to us.

If we are afraid to receive Jesus in Holy Communion, and if we have done everything we can to ensure that we are in a state of grace, then I think that we are lacking in trust.

Give Jesus the joy of trusting Him.

I’m not sure what you are trying to say here. From first glance I’m wondering if you are asking about scrupulocity.

If you we receiving confession weekly, you should be able to receive communion weekly, unless you are mortally sinning every week between confession and Mass.

What kind of assistance are you looking for?

You are already being more conscientious than most Catholics that receive the Eucharist on a daily basis, and unless you’re confessing a laundry list of mortal sins each week, I think you are safe to receive the Eucharist each week, or at least more than “rarely”. Maybe talk with your confessor about this, but it does sound like to me that you are being overly scrupulous.

NOTE: I don’t this is was a accurate comment. The majority of Catholics who attend Daily Mass are devout, practicing Catholics who believe in everything Mother Church teaches.

While I understand what you meant, this comment is not helpful for people coming here looking for Catholic Answers to questions.

God Bless

The Eucharist gives us the grace we need to combat sin.
Don’t stay away from the very thing that Christ commanded us to do.
If you are not in a state of mortal sin…GO.
Be one with your Beloved.

Having read some threads, I think that more urgent than rushing off to communion (or in addition to doing so on the basis mentioned by others), a high priority should be to check both with your confessor and with a separate spiritual director if you can find one, whether you are having the right penance or need a different one; and recheck that regularly with them both in future as well.

My instinct is, it has not been wrong of you to refrain though I mustn’t necessarily be taken notice of on that!

I say that because it surely is good to draw near to Christ through the sacrament of confession and staying out of the communion queue is (I have a gut feeling) not a slap on the face from you?

This subject crops up a lot and eventually one person will say as much.

Hence, explore penances. (As I am about to do also.)

I meant to say a weekly basis, not daily, forgive my error. With that said, I stand by my amended statement.

Well, at work I talk with co-workers and they do dirty jokes, use foul language (I use foul language and I laugh at their jokes). I also want to add that I’m starting to have a liking for the HOly Eucharist when it’s brought out.

However, I also want to point out that I did recieve the Eucharist on Sunday this past Sunday. Sorry for disturbing everyone.

I’m not a priest, but you most likely are committing venial sins at work, and not mortal sins.

If you haven’t been, please talk to your confessor specifically about these jokes and see if he considers them to venial or not.

Venial sins are forgiven by receiving communion.

Jokes that are mortal sins are typically an HR nightmare at work, which is why I would GUESS that your jokes are most likely venial.

But again, talk to your priest specifically about these jokes.
