Recommend book on historical Jesus

I’ve read Tacitus and Flavius Josephus; are there any good books that fairly treat the topic of Jesus simply as a person?

For an ancient source, try the Gospels. For a more contemporary one, I’d recommend Luke Timothy Johnson’s The Real Jesus.

I think LTJ views have drastically changed since this book from 1996. Carl E. Olson has quite a disturbing analysis about LTJ latest book.

Right, but that book represents a pretty strong critique of the Jesus Seminar. I had to read it in an undergrad Christology class, and it was assigned by a pretty orthodox professor who wouldn’t have had us read nonsense. And if someone’s views have changed over time, that doesn’t invalidate their earlier work.
