emom:
Does anyone have recommendations of any good priest for confession in the Sterling Heights, MI area? I am having a hard time getting myself to confession and tried going to different priests in the area. I am having a hard time with this sacrament and need some more confident guidence.
eMom:
You have two great choices for solid Catholic confessors. There might be others, but I’m know with certainty that these two parishes focus heavily on confession, providing many opportunities. The priests at these parishes will not downplay sin, tell you its ok to do things the catechism says is not ok, and will not rush you. They are giving of their time, often providing spiritual direction from the confessional, in particular on Saturdays when not rushed by forthcoming Mass.
I live in Warren, but go to Assumption Grotto on Gratiot, near McNichols. Confession is Saturday between 2:30 and 3:30, but generally runs between 3 and 4, when the vigil Mass begins.
We also have confession before the 9:30 and 12:00 noon mass. 9:30 is a latin Mass (Novus Ordo, not TLM or Tridentine Latin Mass).
If that is too far or you are uncomfortable, I would go to Ss. Cyril & Methodius on Ryan, just North of 18. It is Slovak but has a large community of non-Slovaks due to its orthodoxy and straightforward, old-fashioned Catholicism. I don’t know their confession hours, but they can be found at the website. Here are both websites. I will also give you a link to the Southeast Michigan Catholic Community thread here in the forums, which you may find interesting.
