Just wondering if anyone in their parish uses cruet drainers, and if so could you recommend a company for quality of goods please?

Cruet drainer

Somebody in our parish made something similar out of short lengths of dowelling mounted into holes in a block. We use it for draining the bottles of altar wine because we wash them out and refill them from gallon containers…

It works fine, although the part where the dowelling joins the base tends to get soggy, and of course, it is strictly a ‘back sacristy’ gadget i.e. not good enough for show.

I had attempted to modify something similar, but couldn’t think of a way to plastic coat the dowel. Thankyou for offering your suggestion, perhaps I should revisit it again.

I think, if he was doing it again, , the maker of it would have put loads of yacht varnish on it. As it is, we put twists of paper towel round the bases of the uprights to soak up any drips and renew them from time to time.

As I said, strictly a back sacristy gadget!

Just thought - any old-fashioned hardware stores in your area? You may find a multi-rod towel rail that grandmothers used to use for tea=towels and you could adapt it? ISTR they were plastic coated…
