Hey All,
Just wondering if anyone can recommend reading for new Catholics. I keep seeing books about the liturgy and mass and am finding it all a bit confusing. Anyone have any ideas on books that will help me to learn the rites and rituals of the Church, with devotional prayers etc. I have the Catechism btw 😃 Excuse me if I sound a bit daft, I am new to all this, but enjoying the journey so far 😃
God Bless.

Catholicism for Dummies is a great, readable book that covers the basics of Catholic beliefs and practices. Do make sure it is the Dummies one, not the Idiots Guide as that one isn’t so accurate.

A couple of other good, fairly basic books are Catholicism by Father Robert Barron and On Being Catholic by Thomas Howard.

I agree, PLEASE DO NOT buy the Idiot’s Guide, as it is very slanted. Get the Dummies book. You can get it cheap, too.

I enjoyed both The Catholic Mass for dummies which explains the NO, EF and Divine Litergies as well as the reasons why. The other book I would say to get would be Catholic Q&A by Father John Dietzen. These helped me out when I was comming into the Church 😃

I like to recommend these books, because many catholics are poorly catechized about them:

Purgatory: Explained Fr. F.X. Schouppe

The Dogma of Hell by Schouppe

The Unicorn in the Sanctuary by R. England I suggest this one so that you know what to look for so that you don’t fall into the trap of New Age. It’s actually a very interesting book that is totally catholic.

The Manual of Indulgences

Butler’s Lives of the Saints It’s good to read on the saints. 🙂

Saints Behaving Badly by Craughwell

A Biblical Walk Through the Mass by Dr. Sri

The Latin Mass Explained by Moorman

Sorry. Won’t flood you with more books for now. :o

So much reading LOL!!! I have ordered myself a Misel and aready have the Dummies book, gonna look into the others too 🙂 Thank you guys for taking the time to have a think and recommend 😃 Means a lot 🙂

Theology For Beginners by F.J. Sheed.

I have two books on the Mass (and specifically on the new English translation of the Mass) which you can find on Amazon or by clicking on the links in my signature. They explain the prayers and actions of the Mass.
