Recommended catechism curriculum: grade 1

Hello folks,

I’m interested in hearing recommendations for first grade catechism curricula that you have enjoyed.

The Archdiocese of Boston recommends the Faith and Life series by Ignatius Press. I have not used the first grade materials, but we are using the fifth grade Faith and Life materials now, and they are excellent. Very comprehensive, and very doctrinal. You can follow some of these links and get a pretty good feel. Ignatius Press is good about allowing sample pages to help you get a sense of the material.

I have used Faith and Life for first grade CCE and my youngest had it for his Catholic school religion class. It’s very solid with lots of activities and supplemental material. Another good one for the younger ones is Image of God.
 
I’ve heard good things about the “Good Shepherd” series.
 
Either Faith and Life or Image of God, both by Ignatius Press, are excellent.

I have been using the Faith and Life series for years (it’s what my mom used with my siblings while homeschooling; I was too old for it by the time she found out about it) and have been VERY impressed with it. I used the Grade 1 book years ago for teaching religion at school and liked it. Unfortunately I did not use it for Grade 1 with DSD simply because that year had a lot of upheaval, but we have been using F&L since Grade 2. She is now in Grade 5 and we plan to use it all the way through to Grade 8.
 
I’ve used Faith and Life (a very solid approach) as my primary source and supplemented with Catechesis of the Good Shepherd ( Archdiocesan approved Montessori methodology).
I second all the Faith and Life recommendations!

I should add that my parish is developing itself as a training centre for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd method for the archdiocese, and I had considered receiving teacher training, but the method seemed a poor fit for my son, who is a more Socratic learner.
