How should a person who has been away from the Sacrament of Reconciliation for 25 years prepare for one now?

Call as many sins you have commited to mind as best as you can. If you forgot some, that’s ok. They are still forgiven.

I called & talked to a priest and then made an appointment to have him hear my confession. It had been 35 years for me. Welcome back!!

With humility that such an awesome God loved you so much he gave you time to learn him and return to him. Welcome home. The holy spirit will help you through.

In addition to the suggestions given, I would schedule a time to meet with the priest as opposed to the normal time Confession is held at your Church. The reason is because the Confession would, theoretically, be a little longer than most other people’s.

Whether it’s you coming back to the Church after 25 years, or a friend, G-d bless you and welcome Home.

I wanted to know theoretically what to do. I go to Confession regularly.

Begin with The Sign of The Cross and then say “Bless me Father, for I have sinned”
Now comes the hard part “It has been 25 years since my last confession”

Then move on to confessing your sins, remember to tell the priest how many times you have committed a certain sin. Father will then prescribe a penance which usual takes the form of a prayer.

Then say the act of contrition. To find the words simply google act of contrition.
The Priest then absolves you of your sin. Conclude with the sign of the cross exit the confessional and perform your penance.

My advice would be to take your time in confessing and listening to what the Priest has to say. Don’t rush things and speak clearly andy questions just ask Father.

God Bless

Just tell the priest that its been 25 years since you last confessed. Then, list your sins. Take as long as you want and don’t be ashamed if you start crying.
