Since I noticed that many parishes offer a Reconciliation Mass during Lent, I was curious as to whether participation in this mass is considered the equivalent of personal reconciliation with a priest.
 
If there is no personal confession with a priest during the service, then no it is not.
 
Aren’t ALL Masses about Reconciliation–re-presenting in time the one great eternal Act of Reconciliation?

I think you’re referring to a communal Reconciliation service. It is not a Mass, but a different liturgy.

During a Reconciliation service there is a Liturgy of the Word including Scripture readings and a homily. There will also be an examination of conscience. Then there will be priests available for individual confession and absolution. Usually the parishes in an area team up so that there will be multiple priests available.

Yes it’s the equivalent of personal Reconciliation with a priest because it IS individual Reconciliation with a priest.

The sacrament of Penance is not to be celebrated during Mass.

No, there are Masses of Reconciliation with their own specific Prefaces and Eucharistic Prayers.

They are not to be mistaken for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Point of clarification. I did mean to use the word “service”. My apologies for the confusion.

we may not in this diocese have a communal celebration of the sacrament of reconciliation in the context of Mass, it must be before or after, or at another time, and must include opportunity for individual confession to a priest. Act of contrition may be prayed as a group.

There are several Eucharistic Prayers specifically for Reconciliation, but these are for Mass, not for communal reconcilation services.
