Reconfessing, confessing past sins etc

Hello everyone,

I went to confession today! Yay!

Yet, I remember things now that I didn’t confess. (Actually, they’re things from the very distant past, and I may have confessed some of them. But I don’t know if I did, and I don’t know if I did it well enough.)

What should I do? Should I bring these things up in the confessional tomorrow, should I forget about them?

You should forget about them. You don’t need to confess things that you are doubtful about. This is especially true if you have a tendency to be scrupulous

When you go to confession you are absolved of ALL your sins as long as you make as good a confession as you can. I have gone completely blank several times, only to remember things later. I always acknowledge to the priest that I know I have committed other sins for which I am sorry.

I actually recently dealt with this issue as I was struggling with things in my past. Father explained to me very clearly that unless one DELIBERATELY conceals a sin, then one is forgiven and iti s forgotten.

If this is something repetetive, however, or something that really bothers you, then you should bring it up in order to obtain some advice in how to deal with it.

If the sins you forgot are mortal sins, then although you’re still forgiven of them, you’ll still need to mention them in your next confession.

Make a good confession, hide nothing at the end of your confession add a saying like, “father, for these and all the sins of my life I am truly sorry”, in actuality the priest includes a saying similar to this when granting absolution, but to give you a better feeling, like you’ve included everything try it. You just can’t use it to “cover up” sins you’d rather not mention, that doesn’t work, sorry… lol

To help get it off your chest… next time you go to confession tell the priest what you are telling us along with the sins you are not sure if you confessed or not.
