A couple years ago, before a converted, I committed an act of theft that was sexually driven. Once I converted I made my first general confession, I confessed this sin only as theft, without mentioning it’s sexual aspect. I didn’t do this to conceal it, but because I was simple unaware about many aspects of confession. Also during this confession, I didn’t mention the number of times I had committed any of the sins. I didn’t know I had to, and assumed that because it was a general confession, the priest knew that everything I was confessing had occurred an uncountable about of times. I also suffer from scruples, and St. Alphonsus says that you should not reconfess sins under this condition. I normally wouldn’t, but I’m not sure if that applies here because in the original confession, the priest didn’t get the whole picture. So in conclusion, I would like your opinion as to whether or not I should reconfess this sin.

I would appreciate if this thread was not locked because I mentioned scrupulosity, because I need to make a decision either way, and I would prefer to do with some advise.

EDIT: I now realize that the internet is not a good place for scrupulous problem solving, and I will confess the sin to a priest

If you got absolution then there is no need to. If the priest doesnt ask for more detail then don’t sweat on it. No need to confess sins that God already forgave and forgotten about.

Please speak to your priest if you don’t believe you truly confessed your sins, don’t ask people on the internet if you are scrupulous.

Just ask the Priest what you wrote above when you go to your next confession.

And then do what he tells you!

This forum is not the place to have this discussion. Scrupulosity is not helped by the internet and random opinions.

Steps for the Scrupulous:
  1. Read this article: https://fatherdoyle.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/scruples-and-their-treatment.pdf
  2. Talk to a priest in person
  3. Don’t ask scrupulosity-related questions on this forum (well any online forum really, but especially this one). Most of the advice you get, while well-intentioned, will be from people who have no idea what it is like to have scrupulosity, and will likely only cause you more anguish.
Repeat steps as necessary
