Is it acceptable to pray the rosary with a recorded cassette? I think I heard once that you have to move your lips when praying the rosary. Is that true?

As far as I know there is nothing at all wrong with praying silently and not moving your lips.

I don’t know about recordings, but I’d think that as long as you are reciting your part, attentive and meditating on the mysteries you’d be fine.

I may have heard somewhere once that it was best to pray aloud, though certainly not mandatory.

I prefer praying with a recorded scriptural rosary. I find that it allows me to jump into the stream of prayer so to speak and focus all my attention on the words and scripture passages in a way I can’t seem to do on my own. I get far less distracted.

Perhaps it’s just because I’m not used to it, but I can’t focus on the Rosary at all when I attend the one before weekday Mass. All of the different voices and cadences and timing really distract me. There is one woman who is consistently 2-3 words ahead of everyone else and in a loud voice.

Praying with a tape is fine. Not much different than praying with EWTN on TV.

Either way the prayers will be heard by our Blessed Mother. You may try mixing it up such as in public you may pray silently. Before Mass participate in the vocal rosary where someone says the first part and the rest of the group says the last part of the prayer.

Often times at home I will gently stroll throughout the house and pray in a soft voice. If I become distracted I will usually raise my voice to help me concentrate.

Praying the Rosary is highly regarded and doing so shows both Jesus and Mary how much you love them.

God Bless

There are also android and iphone apps for praying the rosary that work really well. I’ve relied on those in the past when I’ve been caught without my physical rosary. Now I just use the app to look up the day’s mystery when I forget. :o

My sister told me of the sisters mouthing the prayers silently when patrolling the halls at her school at night.

I try to mouth the words and focus my mind on the mystery - not too successfully much of the time. However, mouthing the words does slow me down; otherwise I tend to speed read the prayers.
