Recording a Death?

So, I was just reading a thread about recording a 1st Communion, and the fact that they do not have to be recorded.

I didn’t want to take the thread off topic, but I needed to ask a question.

In the thread, someone mentioned recording deaths. How does that happen? I know I was never asked about where my parent’s were baptized. Or are deaths recorded where the funeral takes place??

Should I contact the churches where they were baptized or give copies of their certificates to the parish that held their funerals?

(They both died last year, a few month apart.)

Our parish priest sent me my infant son’s baptism record a month or two after he had died (and had a funeral mass at the same parish), There was no notatation about his death on it, actually. I’m sure there is a record of the funeral taking place at the Church, though. Perhaps they don’t note it on the sacrament record? There was spaces for the other sacraments, such as confimation, matrimony, etc.

I know that at the parish where I worked, we only recorded deaths of persons who were buried in our graveyard. If a parishioner died and was taken somewhere else for burial they were not entered in the death register. In our province a church can issue a death certificate so that’s why we record deaths.

Of course recording these deaths because of burials helps keep the cemetery records a bit clearer. We have a highly transient population and many of those buried in our cemetery have no one to care for their gravesites. That means that many graves have no markers and it’s only through the register that we can figure out who’s buried where.

Deaths are recorded in the territorial parish in which the deceased lived.

No.

Death notices are not sent to the parish of baptism. They are recorded only in the parish where the deceased lived.

Correct. Deaths are not notated on the baptismal certificate.

We record deaths only when the funeral is held in our parish. We don’t send death notices to the parish where the person was baptized.

My parish does the same. Only the people buried in our cemetery are recorded in our death register.
