Hello. Does anyone have any experience in recording parish homilies and posting them on parish websites?

Thanks.

We’ve done that at our parish for a few years now. I would strongly recommend a third-party service for storing/hosting the recordings. After a while, the demands on your web server can be a bit much for any decent user interaction.

I’m no longer directly involved, but I believe we’re currently using SoundCloud.

We have done this in my parish for over a year now. I work with another person to make it happen. He plugs his digital recorder into our sound system to record the homily then edits it for sound quality (I don’t know much about this part) and sends me the Mp3 file and I upload it to the internet.

The service I chose is Buzzsprout because it is very inexpensive at $12 a month for three hours of podcasts and offers unlimited storage. They also have good tutorials on how to set up your podcast within Buzzsprout and how to set up an iTunes channel.

If you have any specific questions I’ll be happy to try and answer them.

Oops. Forgot to second what Cor ad Cor said about not storing the files on the web server for your parish website. These files take up a lot of space and will slow the bandwidth to you site.

Once I created the podcast site in Buzzsprout for my parish I placed a link to the Buzzsprout site on our website and that has worked well.

Thanks for the tips.

Currently I record the homily on a recorder as a .wav file then use AudioAudition to convert it to mp3 and post to the website.

Questions:

Do I need to do anything different with the file to upload it to YouTube?

Is there a way to control the recorder via the internet so that if I’m not there I can still record and post the homily?

Thanks.
