You’re an alcoholic for as long as you want to be an alcoholic. Don’t believe that 12 step program that once an alcoholic always an alcoholic. If you have the will to quit for the rest of your life you will. But if you say you’re an alcoholic, you are. The key to stop drinking is not wanting to drink anymore–to grow out of your addiction. I used to be an alcoholic/drug addict but I’m not anymore because I grew out of my addiction. I wanted to quit and I quit for the rest of my life. I don’t think about it and I don’t dream about it. If you’re not ready to grow up you won’t grow up and see that old habits are childish. When I become a man I have to put away childish habits. Simple as that. Given that the accident of alcohol still remains, yes it can harm you. You consume so little of it at Communion that it likely doesn’t have an effect on you, but it still have all the properties and effects of alcohol.i am a recovered drunk of twenty-eight years and i drink the blood when it is offered at mass. i and several other drunks of my acquaintance refuse to believe that drinking the blood of Christ can cause harm.
