Reddit Debate, no longer able to answer questions. help please!

I recently got involved with debates on reddit.com/r/debatereligion, primarily with atheists. I am a student, and as such that means I am still learning and have little spare time. The number of replies to my comments have far exceeded anything I had ever imagined. Unfortunately, I have gotten to a point where my time and knowledge is taxed to where I can no longer answer these people’s questions about the faith. If anyone here is interested in going to check out this community and answering questions where I am no longer able, that would be great!

You can’t win a debate with them because they will not agree to any point you make that threatens their position. That means they will not accept any argument that cannot be verified by science. So it is really futile to engage in debate with them. Leave it to the pros who are skilled and have the time. Just tell them you have to devote more time to your studies and won’t be back for a year or so.

Most commenters on various sites seem to be immune to reason.
 
Attempting reason in such a forum seems to yield little other than ad hominem attacks. Insults are often posted rather more than are considered positions. I strongly agree with Evania’s suggestion posted earlier in this thread.
 
Bail! You cannot win, It matters not how great your words are, or how persuasive your logic. You are dealing with ignorant, childish, closed minds - who are swarming you. I would bail.
 
I regularly post comments on different sites and a lot of people are more interested in their point of view than accepting that someone’s view point could be different and correct.

That’s why I tend to post, while realizing that I’m expressing my opinion to have it “out there,” not w/the intent to engage people in debate. I like to think that I’m planting seeds.

A lot of people are just way too invested in their own viewpoint and are more interested in bullying people than listening and having a real back/forth discussion.

Only do debates when you have the time to invest. I like to do them so I can refine and clarify my own thinking, but I enter into them only when 1) it’s meaningful to me and 2) I have the time to invest in it.
