I have just finished reading Christopher West’s “Theology of the Body For Beginners” and it was very good. A common theme I found was to offer our sexual desires and thoughts to Christ, so that He could redeem them, and guide them towards true life. How exactly is this done? What classifys as a ‘redeemed’ sexual desire or thought? How do you know where to draw the line? etc. etc.

Thanks!

When we’re struggling with impure thoughts we can ask Christ to take our struggles, purify them, make them work towards a greater good… In our difficulty of trying to ignore our thoughts, we can ask Christ to perhaps put our effort towards the salvation of souls in purgatory, or to relieve the suffering of someone else we know. “Offering things up” for a greater good is redemptive suffering.

We can come to understand redemptive suffering through the Passion. All of Christ’s agony, His suffering, from Gethsemane to Golgatha, was part of the mystery of salvation- He offered Himself as a perfect Sacrifice to wipe away our sins, and gain us Eternal Life in Heaven.

God bless.
