I have a friend who had a bad accident and is now bed ridden temporarily. She is searching spiritually and goes to a Messianic church. We discussed the faith before and I have given her some Catholic material. Yesterday, I spoke with her about suffering and how it draws us closer to Christ. She agrees and was very open and emotional. She said you’re the only one who gets it. She said maybe because of what you’ve been through. And I said, yes, but this is our faith and what we believe about suffering…etc.

She is very “into” psalms and the OT, also. Does anyone have any info or articles on suffering, or any specific verses or things I can share with her and give her upon which she can meditate? Thank you so much.

Peace

There Are No Accidents: In All Things Trust in God
by Father Benedict J. Groeschel, would be an excellent book for her.

James Allison’s ‘Knowing Jesus’. I also found Henri Nouwen’s ‘The Inner Voice of Love’ helpful. Some people like Philip Yancey’s ‘Where is God When it Hurts’ - though I’m not a huge fan.
