I am a Mormon that is going to convert. Will I have to “re-confess” the sins that I have already confessed as a Mormon?

When you are baptized at the Easter Vigil, that will remove all sins you have committed. After your baptism, you’ll be able to go to confession as needed and only need to worry about the sins you will have committed at that time.

Be careful in how you phrase the above. Mormons do baptize “In the name of the father, son, and holy spirit”. But they mean something different by it than we do as Christians. The Vatican has ruled LDS baptism invalid.To add, were you Baptized “In the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit”?
If not, you would be admitted to the Church by baptism, which would wash away ALL sins.

I was christened a Lutheran as an infant and baptized in the name of the father and the son and the holy ghost as a mormon when i was 15. will i have to re-confess if i am not required to be baptized again? 51 years of confession is going to take a while!

If you were baptized in the LDS church, the baptism is invalid. You will be baptized validly when you finally convert, and at this time, all your sins will be gone.
If you were not baptized in the LDS church, then you will be baptized validly when you finally convert.
If you were baptized in some other Christian group, it depends. The baptism could be valid or invalid, more likely valid, but it still depends.
No matter your situation, you need to make sure the Church and your priest know about your situation so they can work all this out.

Many LDS were formerly some sort of protestant. It is possible that the OP was baptized in a protestant church before becoming LDS. If so, the protestant baptism is valid.
If the OP was baptized only in the LDS church it is not valid. The Vatican has specifically ruled on this.
That is why we were seeking clarification.

Lutherans have valid baptism. It can be almost 100% assured that you are validly baptized. In this case, yes, you would have to confess all your sins that you remember from your entire life. So, yes, you will need to go to confession, and yes you will need to confess all mortal sins. Your priest will guide you through it.
