Reference bible

I would really like to find a Catholic reference bible (version which has cross references to other verses of similar subject matter). As a Protestant, I found the NIV reference bible extremely useful in study and I still participate in bible studies with protestant friends - and the lack of cross references when discussing scripture is difficult.

I don’t seem to be able to find any Catholic bibles (in any translation) which include reference format. I have the Ignatious RSV catholic addition (like it, but not references) and the Navarre (RSV), but that is a study bible with footnotes - again, no cross references.

Anyone aware of a Catholic Bible (any translation) that is a reference bible?

I have a Douay-Rheims by Baronius Press. It does give you a references to other similar verses. In a verse the letter r my appear beside a word or verse itself and at the bottom of the page it will give you what r is ie. Judges 13:5. All you do is just flip to Judges 13:5. Hope this helps.

My RSV-CE, 2nd Edition, has cross-references. It is the Ignatius Press printing.

Be sure to get the 2nd Edition, which has been revised in 2002, in accordance with Liturgiam Authenticam.

The NAB has cross references. I love my Jerusalem Bible (1966) version. It has the most references of any I think. Also the CTS New Catholic Bible has them. Unfortunately my Jerusalem Bible is out of print and the CTS bible comes from England so that leaves the NAB which I am not too fond of.
I guess that doesn’t help much does it.

the lower case letters superscript after a verse lead to the cross reference below the footnotes.

I assume you are asking for cross references to verses elsewhere in the bible

the asterisk refers to the foonotes, which are listed by chapter and verse below.

The New Jerusalem Bible Study Edition has all the cross references and parallels marked.

This would’ve been my suggestion , but you beat me to it.

For the record, the same is true of the 1966 Jerusalem Bible, but only if it’s the full-sized edition (out of print, but available used), NOT the Reader’s Edition.

For all the hype accorded the RSV-xCE, the amount of cross-references is really lacking, especially in the Deutero-canonical books.

While it is true the NAB also has extensive cross-references and footnotes, the translation itself is inelegant and prosaic to a fault.
