Good morning all. Today I was thinking a bit about the upcoming solemnity of Corpus Christi on Sunday and would like to share my reflection. As I was thinking, I started to think about the Eucharistic processions we do on this day compared to Good Friday. On Good Friday, Jesus was made to go on procession if you will through Jerusalem to Calvary. This procession was spurred on by worldly powers and enemies of God that they might fully humiliate Him. They also sought to strike the flock which was entrusted to the Shepard. By forcing this procession on the Lord, it told His followers, look at what we can do, look at what we will do to you, do you really think you can stand up to our might? The irony is that through this procession of His and then His resurrection, those very worldly powers and enemies where overcame. Compare this to today’s great celebration.
Instead of the Lord being forced to walk, His subjects carry Him in recognition of His sovereignty. We take our Lord on procession to celebrate His triumph in glory, that He is king of all majesty and has deigned to come among us in His body and blood. We carry our Lord with confidence, that if we are faithful members of His kingdom, no worldly power or enemy of His kingdom can stop His divinely ordained plans.
May the Lord bless us this Corpus Christi to grow in every greater awareness, faith and confidence in His Eucharistic presence. And having been strengthened by our Lord in the Eucharist, may we make Him known before the world.
