April 15, 2012 (2nd Sunday of Easter / Divine Mercy Sunday)

First Reading: Acts 4:32-35
Responsorial Psalm:Psalm 118:2-4, 13-15, 22-24
Second Reading:1 John 5:1-6
Gospel: John 20:19-31

Our parish priest reflected upon the Gospel by saying:
All the apostles betrayed Jesus one way or another by deserting him. When they learned about Jesus’ resurrection, they felt ashamed and scared that Jesus will rebuke them. However, when Jesus showed himself to them, the first thing He said was “Peace be with you”. — Says a lot about the mercy of God!

Peter denied Jesus 3 times. Judas pointed Jesus to the temple guards. Why was Peter forgiven, and Judas not? (Judas somehow even repented and gave back the 30 pieces of silver.) Because Peter faced his sinfulness. Judas on the other hand didn’t trust that God’s mercy is greater than his sin, that’s why he took his own life.

This is also the gospel that gave us the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is how we know for sure that when our sins are forgiven by a priest, it is most definitely forgiven by God.
