Reflection on the Nativity with Children

This weekend my wife and I are going to have all of our grand children together for the first time. They range in age from 3-9. I would like to take advantage of this opportunity to take some time to talk to them near our Nativity Scene. Reading Luke 2, might not connect with the younger ones, or maybe it would? Just curious if there is a little reflection of some kind we could read to get them thinking, talking about the birth of our Lord?

Sure it will connect but bring the story down to their level. I teach 3rd grade Sunday school and used ONE WINTRY NIGHT by Ruth Bell Graham. Read just the Nativity part. Kids loved the illustrations in the book. Have also used a Nativity pop-up book from Hallmark. Check out your local library and used book stores.

Also told the story of Isaiah and his prophecies regarding the birth of Christ with empahsis on his encounter with God in the Temple, and the reason why we show a donkey and ox in the stable.
