Reform of the Reform?

Can someone explain to me what the Reform of the Reform actually is and what Pope Benedict’s long term plans with it are, is it just changing the liturgy, cause that’s all u really know about it.
 
I think the Reform of the Reform denotes the changes to the Liturgy this Advent. You can find all kinds of information here Roman Missal.
 
theres more to it than just the new missal. its a whole attitude in the way of celebrating/assisting at/singing the Mass
 
My understanding of the Reform of the Reform is that Pope Benedict is seeking a more genuine interpretation of Vatican II and, principally, Sacrosanctum Concillium. The reforms that have been carried out in the name of Vatican II have went beyond what the documents of Vatican II actually said and Benedict is working to correct this problem. He has spoken of a mutual enrichment of the extraordinary and ordinary forms of the Mass and a striving for Catholic unity. The revised English translation of the missal is a step in this direction, as it is more faithful to the Latin text. In short, Benedict is trying to reform the reforms carried out in the name of Vatican II, and fix everything in the original reform that went beyond the letter of Vatican II and has caused damage to the Church.

I think your post was very well-stated, and I think your last sentence is critical. He would like to fix everything that went beyond the letter of Vatican II AND that has caused damage to the Church. There are many things that went beyond the letter of Vatican II that he does not feel are very damaging to the Church, which will remain.

Overall, I don’t think Benedict has a clear idea of exactly what changes he wants in the Church, or how the new and old forms of the mass will enrich each other. He just knows the general direction, and as a very accomplished bureaucrat at the Vatican, he knows how to nudge things in that direction, and how to put a stop to those things moving the other way. Whereas John Paul was a bit more visionary, Benedict is about the nuts and bolts of making things happen, even if the specifics come from a consensus of dicastery officials, rather than straight from his own noggin. Which is why he’s more effective than John Paul.

This is my understanding of it as well. So many things happened in the name of the non-existent ‘spirit of V2’ that have been very bad for the church. I hope he will achieve enough in that direction and that the next pope will follow with the same agenda.
 
Will the reform of the reform be addressing the catechesis? I read a lot on CAF and hear about this a lot at my parish about people not being catechized correctly, and I would say it’s a pretty big problem, before I even decided to become Catholic I would talk to friends and ask them questions about what Catholics believe and they would have no idea. So what is being done about the poorly catechized people?
