I understand there is a new sort of class of Catholic these days. I have heard the members of the new class called Reformed Catholic. Anyone else heard of this group?

The only elements of their belief system that I can find is:
  1. They either believe in Pro Choice regarding abortion or:
  2. They are Pro Abortion and
  3. They think they can make correct choices with ill formed consciences and
  4. The Magisterium, including the Pope, have no jurisdiction over what their conscience may tell them, at least as far as abortion is concerned. Thus:
  5. They see no additional sin, in receiving Communion, or any other of the Sacraments without true remorse for their errors, especially in regard to the issue of abortion and going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation to beg for forgiveness.
Now, I think they need a wake up call. How does everyone else feel about this?

There is no such thing as a Reformed Catholic. The people you are describing are unfaithful Catholics, dissenting Catholics, disobedient Catholics, and cafeteria Catholics.

I think the OP is on to something. Many Catholics silently disagree with and choose not to follow certain Catholic teachings. As unpopular as it might be, it’s a fact of life.

If there is a group out there calling themselves a Reformed Catholic…then they really aren’t Catholics anymore…actually they have become Protestants! So…it really matters not what they are calling themselves…huh?

Of Course you and I know that Reformed and Catholic are a paradox. But believe you me, I have heard this term used. Scary.

And they “could” very well be be the groups that we call dissenting, disobedient, cafeteria Catholics. They set up their own rules calling themselves Catholic. I suspect if they could, they would appoint their own Pope and Bishops. Really, really, scary.

This is VERY confusing to those who know nothing of the Catholic faith and are suspicious of it.

Oh yes it does. We have a group called Reformed Lutherans, Reformed Evangelicals etc. Word gets around. What if this were to cause a split in the Church? Perhaps this is why the Church has not been more vocal regarding the issues of abortion, ie. prohibiting communion to those who would fit the description given above, requiring all parish priests to be more vocal regarding the heinous crime of abortion??

For instance, on Oct. 5, Pro Life Sunday, our parish priest had only one mention of the aborted. That was for us to pray for them. Instead of a sermon about abortion, we had a Polish Mass. With all due respect to this priest, I don’t know if he had any say in the date this Mass was celebrated, but I would think he could have pointed that out to the committee handling the Festival surrounding the Mass.

If you are in the U.S. you may be referring to the Reformed Catholic Church. It is just one among several denominations which claim to be Catholic, but which have major differences with the Catholic Church based in Vatican City.

My husband had a spot-on observation about this subject today.

We were listening to Catholic radio, and the speaker was talking about the Church Triumphant, the Church Militant, and the Church Suffering. My husband said, “Then there’s that subset of the Church Militant, which is the Church Deluded.”

Yes, that could be, but the fellow, or lady on this particular website was talking about abortion and claimed to be a Reformed Catholic.

:rotfl: That is so cool! Props to your husband.

I hope he doesn’t mind if I steal that term for my own use. He he.
