I never know what to think when it comes to refugees. It’s just too hard a question.

So for a first world country:
Obviously refusing to take any refugees at all is a bit cruel. But taking anyone who comes will cause problems. So I’m guessing the answer is somewhere in the middle. But where do you draw the line?
Appreciate your thoughts and comments.

For me it’s also somewhere down the middle.
Jesus said:

35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

That should be balanced with sound judgment regarding knowing the mentalities, values and any potential criminal pasts of the refugees that are being considered for immigration.

Christians should desire to aid refugees to the best of their ability. That does not necessarily mean transporting tens of millions of them to one’s own country. It can mean helping them in their own countries.

Refugees must be assisted but in such a way that the cultural and economic integrity of the aiding country is not threatened. Ideally, refugees should be helped to return to their native land.

Note, since many are confused on this point, that middle class Africans paying large amounts of money to be smuggled to Europe are not refugees and should not be treated as such.

100%.

Too many confuse these economic migrants with real refugees.

Based on the teachings of Jesus, by what moral rationale could you not house a refugee in your own home?

if they presented a threat to you or your family… That’s about the only thing I could think- either that or financial impossibility

umm… they may be physical threat to my family and/or property

the “refugee” is most likely present in my sovereign nation illegally…

the “refugee” cannot work here legally, therefore is most likely a parasite on my nation which is already $18 trillion dollars in debt

i like peace & quiet in my house, i’ve raised my children & want to be left alone

is that enough reasons or do you want some more… ?

Buy about 100,000 of those Mosin-Nagats, train them for about 6 months and send them back in.

1.ISIS will be no more
2.Iraq and Syria will have a more democratic form of government and the people greater liberty
3.No need to destablize any Western or otherwise other country

Yea, everybody, but ISIS and baddies, win!

We tried that. That’s been the strategy in the Middle East for the past several decades, it doesn’t work.

Democracy doesn’t really work in that region of the world, and won’t, until the Islamic heresy is defeated.

eh, well, that is why I said 100,000 instead of 1 million.

Just the Christians…

The muslims can return too, but just the train the Christians.

As a country we can provide no help. If you as a Catholic want to help them. by all means do so.

Perhaps democracy is also a heresy that needs to be defeated.

You know how to speak my language.

We are a nation of wealth and power, and now we cannot take in refugees?

Better get to sandblasting the Statue of Liberty. That whole “huddled masses yearning” and all.

Do you know what one has had to face to qualify as a refugee? Refugees have braved the high seas and storms to escape the Communism of Cuba or the famine of Haiti, they have escaped war and persecution.

Speaking against undocumented immigrants is one thing, but, now we must reject the families of legal immigrants AND also refugees? Seriously? You know that the US does not have a program that permits citizens to sponsor refugee families, don’t you? In Canada Churches can sponsor refugees, we need a program like that.

I would encourage you to learn the difference between immigration and those seeking asylum for persecution, war, famine.
