I really need some help. I’ve looked through older threads, but I need short and simple advice on how to refute sex outside of marriage, and why it is wrong – from a secular viewpoint.

Did you ever look at the website “Catholic Education” run by the USCCB? It has articles about how premarital sex and shacking-up increase chances for divorce and cause married sexual encounters to be not as fulfilling.

There is no ‘secular’ argument for not having sex outside what Catholics consider marriage to be. Remember that many people who consider themselves married (me, for example, for 32 years) are not married in the eyes of the Church. For your argument to be of any use in supporting Church teaching on marriage, you would have to include the outcomes for people like me under the category ‘sex outside marriage’. While you are arguing for Catholic marriage, what is the acceptable age under canon law for girls to marry? 14 from memory, recently raised from 12. There’s a traditional teaching you don’t hear mentioned as people like me come under attack for our sinful relationships.

No I have nothing against same-sex relationships, but Mrs Hokomai and I have always preferred each other to options of either sex. But the Church would not consider our marriage to be valid, just as it would not accept a homosexual marriage as valid. In our case the Church could would say we could be married validly, while a homosexual coupe could not, but as Mrs Hokomai and I are both unable to accept the Church’s teaching on marriage, and as we are baptised Catholics, like the homosexuals were are forever invalid in the eyes of the Church. I think the difference in gravity between what you have and what a homosexual couple would have, is that you can make your marriage valid in the Church. The criteria is all there… all the right parts and everything.Two baptised apostates married in a civil ceremony.
But a homosexual “marriage” is just incorrect by its very nature… at its very core. It assaults the most basic definition of the word marriage… which is to be between female and male persons.

It seems to me that the motivation for sex outside of marriage is to have sex, outside of marriage. While Catholic teaching is that the purpose of sex is procreative and unitive (in the exclusive sense of uniting one man and one woman), there isn’t a secular consensus about this.
From a nonreligious standpoint, one can question why having sex with a person should entail the expectation of financial and familial comingling with that person, why it should be assumed that one’s goal is to have children, and why it necessitates the exclusion of any other sexual relationships in one’s life.
