I saw the videos on the mass that were linked by a thread here on TKC! tkc.net/
I decided to write to the people who put the DVDs together about my concerns about altar girls and I got a very nice answer that I thought I would share. I noticed that I couldn’t find the thread anymore…maybe people got too critical without charity…
But here goes. I will post the text of letter I got. Please don’t get uncharitably critical:
Greetings in Christ!
We thank you for your comments on the Mass video and in particular related
to the altar servers.
The Mass represented in the video are ACTUAL Liturgies, not mock-ups. They
are a cross section of a variety of Liturgies offered in different places
and spaces. It is currently what the majority of Catholics in the United
States are experiencing today. We filmed what we believe to be accurate
and liturgically correct.
As of yet the Vatican has not issued a formal statement regarding female
Altar Servers. We expect that in the coming years, perhaps as early as 2008
we will see some modifications to the liturgy which will certainly include a
revision of language, moving back to a literal translation from the Latin
Texts, some additional norms related to the use of Eucharistic ministers and
possibly addressing this very issue you mention.
This video is primarily focused on educating the viewer on what is taking
place, while also representing a variety of spaces and types of masses. We
have tried very hard to accurately represent the liturgy in a Holy and
Sacred way. Thy Kingdom Come, Inc. will always try to be in step with the
church and to represent her in a beautiful and inspiring way.
We thank you for contacting us regarding the altar servers. We will
continue to pray for our church as we work together to expand the Kingdom of
Christ,

This was my letter to them:
Hi,
I saw some parts of your beautiful movie on the mass. I enjoyed it except
for the presence of female altar servers.
The usage of female altar servers is inappropriate. They will never be
priests and the function of an altar server is to help the priest, but also
be in a position to discern his vocation to the priesthood.
It is often commented on that where there are female altar servers, the boys
will not join. So not only is a female altar server doing something that
doesn’t make sense (in a position to discern her vocation to the
priesthood), but she is contributing to the exclusion of males from that
role.
Sorry I have to be critical, but this is very important.
