Regarding an at Home Altar

Hi I was wondering where you can find altar cloths and if there are any good stores online, its for an at home altar and it has nothing to cover it. Also I was wondering if candles at a personal altar have to be votive candles, all we have are two plain unscented tea light candles. Is that okay? Lastly can you buy incense like priest use during certain masses and burn them at home or is that restricted to the church. If you can use incense what type do they use.:highprayer:

I was wondering where you could get altar cloths too. A good place to start is to ask your parish where they get their altar cloths. Also ask at your local Catholic Store. I use the candles that I usually cart from the United States of America when I go visiting. They are the candles you can find in Wal-Mart that are Catholic or religious.

I am sure that your unscented tea light candles are okay.

The incense, I would ask that your Church uses and then do a search for them. I usually get my incense from the Hermits at Nazareth Hermitage when I visit the United States of America.

Have you tried putting “alter cloths” in Google and seeing the results?

I tried it just to see and there were loads of online places that did things for alters. 🙂

Search up alter linen on ebay. When I tried alter CLOTH, I got a bunch of occult stuff.
You can also by cool frankincense candles there or frankincense oil for a churchy incense scent.

:mad: I cannot tell you how frustrated I have been with Ebay in looking for altar cloths and getting occult items. Thank you so much for posting your post. 🙂 Back to Ebay this week.

If you are looking for incense and incense burners, you might consider Monastery Icons (www.MonasteryIcons.com).

They have small incense burners, charcoal (I purchase the small “quarter” size), and a wonderful variety of incenses. My favorites are Queen of Heaven and Sweet Myrrh.

I have used them for many years and have always been very happy with their quality.
 
Regarding candles, I’m pretty sure there are no real “rules” for home alters anyway. Somewhere I read that it was “traditional” to have votive candles for more regular use, plus tapers for sacramental occasions like if an Anointing of the Sick is done in the home.
