Heya all,

So this is sort of a continuation of my previous post but I found out that certain copyright holders (of a product) allow their content to be posted on sites like YouTube which probably explains why certain videos with copyrighted content hasn’t been taken down. So I came to the conclusion, that, if the video was up since, let’s say 2010 and it’s still standing, it would be alright to watch it because there it is highly likely the owner allowed his/her material to be shown on YouTube.

What do you guys think of this?

I would agree with your conclusion.

Additionally, I don’t think you’re even stealing in your act of watching the videos- there’s no reliable way to ensure that.
To use an analogy, there’s no way to tell if that library book you borrowed was stolen and then donated to the library or not. So, you aren’t complicit in the theft, since you don’t know of its orgin.

you’re okay, in my opinion.

I would agree. Videos posted on YT get compensation from ad revenue. I can only assume that if something is posted, especially for awhile, then the owner either doesn’t mind or gave permission. They may just not know but we have no way of knowing that.

As a rule if you see the little yellow commercial lines throughout the video you can probably bet the show is legitimately posted since the poster (Probably the producer) is getting commercial revenue and would probably have to show proof of its posting.
