I created a DVD about 6 months ago of a family vacation using music that I found free for download online. I did not know at the time that doing so was a sin and sent many of the DVDs to family and friends. I’ve since removed the music from my computer, but I obviously cannot retrieve the music from the DVDs sent out. The creator of the music is also deceased, but I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

I’ve since confessed copyright infringement to my priest. Have I done all I can do?

Ask your priest if you should make an attempt of restitution or for him to suggest something you might be able to do in lieu of restitution.

And you, or anyone else reading this, can contact the US Copyright Office to get their advice about anything you’re unsure about. They’re nice people. Trust me.

Phone: (202) 707-3002 or 1-877-476-0778

Peace,
Ed
