Over in the “May I ask another potentially controversial question” thread, a debate has been raging on for a few days and 1,124 views and 86 posts later – the question hasn’t really been answered.

The two main questions are:

(1) Do Christians, Jews, and Muslims all worship the same God? If not, are Muslims and Jews pagan?
(2) Do Jews need to be “saved” and become Christians, or has their Old Covenant with God never been revoked and still exists today?

People seem to have (or claim to have) Catholic documents that support both sides of each issue – so we’re all divided and can’t come up with an answer. So my final question is – is there an answer??

  1. Yes, Christians, Jews, and Muslims all worship the same God. Jews and Muslims, however, do not have a complete understanding of God as a Triune God.
Please see the #841Catechism of the Catholic Church,.
  1. Yes, all Christians, Jews, and Muslims need salvation, but that does not mean that they must “explicitly” join the Catholic Church. Please read a previous post that discusses the teaching of “No salvation outside the Church” and how we can reconcile that with the understanding that non-Catholics can be saved.
