Can anyone tell me when some Protestant sects began the practice “regeneration”,“being saved”, or “born again”,altar calls etc.,? Who, specifically, started this/these practice/s?

Any help is appreciated!

The expressions “regeneration,” “born again,” “being saved” are Biblical and refer to what takes place in Baptism.

This link to an anti-Catholic webpage about the history of the Sinner’s Prayer discusses how these Biblical expressions were disassociated from Baptism to refer to an adult conversion experience. As I said, this is an anti-Catholic website so exercise some caution and take with a grain of salt what it says about pre-Reformation Christianity.

Todd,

Thank you for the link. Though it certainly is an anti-Catholic site, as you stated, I did find that particular article to be very informative. It gave me the answer I needed!

God bless you.
