Regional restrictions on products

I could phrase the question generally, but it will be easier to explain my particular situation.
On two seperate occasions, both over a year ago, I got a family member to buy me a video game, with I to pay for it. One was bought second-hand in a shop, the other from a private trader on the British Amazon website (I live in Ireland). However, both appeared to be the American editions, and although they worked perfectly, they also carried the following notice
“FOR SALE, RENTAL AND USE ONLY IN USA, CANADA, MEXICO AND LATIN AMERICA”
I decided that I was under no obligation to follow this instruction, which I figured had been put in place only to facilitate higher prices for the European editions. yesterday, however, I was reminded of this, and decided to ask you people about the matter.
What do you think? can I continue to use these.?

The trader ripped you off. Consider complaining to Amazon, so they can check up on this trader and prevent this happening to someone else.
I think you’re morally OK using these. The higher prices on European versions are due in part to VAT. One purpose of the notices on the products is to prevent tax fraud on the part of the dealers.
