Judas had remorse/regret,
but he did not “repent.” He went to the religious leaders
and gave them back the money, but then instead of going off and
praying (even praying in despair) for hours on end, and praying for days for forgiveness
if necessary, instead he hanged himself.
He knew the apostles would be livid at him,
but still he should have asked God for forgiveness, over and over and over again,
until he GOT the forgiveness, (just like Jacob wrestled with the Angel of the LORD
all night long and told him, “I WILL NOT LET YOU GO UNLESS YOU BLESS ME!!!”
Had Judas done that, the apostles would have had no right to remain angry at him.
After all, except for Peter’s moment of brave rashness in cutting off the ear of the high priest’s slave, the apostles ran like scared rabbits when Jesus was arrested,
and then Peter, out of fear, when his Lord was in trouble and in danger of death,
denied even KNOWING the Lord Jesus three times. Imagining knowing that your
Rabbi is the Divine Son of God and denying even KNOWING him, after witnessing all his miracles, etc. Yet Peter eventually went off and bitterly cried, repenting and praying for forgiveness for denying Jesus.
It was okay for Judas to return the money, that was praiseworthy.
But he blew it by killing himself instead of taking it to the LORD in prayer.
Do people feel Godly regret in Hell? I honestly don’t know.
IF they DO, then seriously, they SHOULD be offered forgiveness.
But I don’t believe they really do feel Godly regret, and if released from hell,
I don’t believe that they would repent and thank God for his mercy. I think they would
turn right back to their lives of PRACTICING mortal sin unremorsefully if given the chance.
Just my two cents.
Love to all of you,
