Hi,
Do you confess to a regular confessor or just go to whatever priest/parish is convenient? I feel I make much better spiritual progress with our parish priest but sometimes I cannot seem to get to the scheduled confession when he is there. He knows all my “stuff” and the advice I get is based on that prior knowledge. I asked around at a parish class and a lot of the people said “Just go to whoever, it doesn’t really matter,” but that night I was reading St. Faustina’s Diary and saw that having a regular confessor who “got” her was a big part of her spiritual growth. Opinions, please!

Both are good…

I have a regular Confessor…whom I ordinarily see who knows me…

and I confess where I am…a few weeks ago in Germany…🙂 Next week will be at an Eastern Catholic establishment…

🙂

I have had a regular confessor for 12 years. Since he is not in my parish I usually make an appointment for confession. Since he is also my director he will often hear my confession after a session. Once in awhile I will go to someone else but that is if he is away or I am on retreat.

I have a regular confessor who is also my spiritual director. I feel the same way you do … my confessor knows me pretty well. I went to him for two years then luckily he was at my parish for two years. In July he transferred parishes, but luckily only twenty minutes away. We meet once a month for spiritual direction and confession.

I have a regular confessor who is my pastor. I prefer that than just going to “whoever”. Not officially my spiritual director, but there is rarely a line for confession at our parish, and sometimes I feel like I get a little spiritual direction in the mix of things.

I have such a difficult time getting to confession because of my work hours… and there are so few priests around - I am pleased to get any priest at all.

I prefer different priests because when I get the same message from several of them I know that I am on the right track. Mind you I would obey whatever any priest told me, I’m not looking for consensus but it’s re-assuring if one gets consensus.

I’ve never heard of anyone having spiritual directors until I came to CAF.

This is a great point- I guess I never thought of it that way! Thanks!🙂

I have a regular confessor, who also happens to be my spiritual director.

Spiritual direction is a wonderful gift of the church- I am a revert, who’s first confession expereince in a very long time only happened because of my work with a SD.

Having just completed the 19th Annotation of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius (a very intense 30 week retreat experience in which one meets with a SD once a week), I see now, more than ever, that having a SD/confessor and regular confessions are a very important part of the journey.
