He included it in Fratelli Tutti , so take that for what it’s worth.
I will take it for what it’s worth, which is that it’s his opinion, as a product of his era and taking into account many countries with prison systems far less just than USA’s even with its flaws. The US system is also rather unjust at times. I see some guy just got freed for being unjustly sentenced to life imprisonment for selling 20 dollars worth of pot because his lawyer failed to object when he was incorrectly sentenced.

And furthermore that the Pope’s opinion is rather poorly expressed as is often the case with this Pope. I doubt very much that he expects us to go around freeing the Hannibal Lecters and the Jeffrey Dahmers and so forth. If he did think that, then I would gently suggest he may not have thought this through, as often seems to be the case with this Pope.

Do you at least recognize that it is the Catholic Church’s position?
Is climate change the church’s position or the pope’ s private opinion?
What specifically are you asking? The Pope speaks with the information he has available. He makes prudential judgments to guide the faithful. The Church speaks about stewardship of creation.
What parts of that are you comparing to the inadmissibility of the death penalty?

Killing more people will not lead to a safer society.

Creating a culture that values the life of every person will.

The end.

And my answer is that being anti-death penalty is neither pro-life
Right, that is your answer. Again, it was the Catholic position that was being asked for. And being anti-death penalty is definitely Catholic, unless you believe the Pope not to be Catholic, and you are literally more Catholic than the pope.

I believe that what the Pope says does not define what is catholic. The apostolic faith handed down is what determines if what the Pope says is catholic. So make of that what you will.
